Closing ceremony for Nuclear Division Mentorship Programme 2023

The Nuclear Division has been organizing the Mentorship Program for undergraduates studying Nuclear and Risk Engineering Program at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) since 2021. This annual program aims to foster connections between practicing engineers and engineering students, while providing valuable professional advice regarding career paths in the nuclear industry. The program commenced on 18th March 2023 and included formal sharing sessions on the nuclear industry, as well as informal peer mentoring between industry professionals and students.

To conclude the successful program in 2023, the Nuclear Division, with the support of the CityU Department of Mechanical Engineering, hosted a closing ceremony on 15th November 2023 at the CityU Faculty Lounge. All mentors and mentees, as well as distinguished guests such as Dr Francis Lee, president of HKAMP were invited to attend this event.

During the gathering, Ir Prof Ken Cheung, Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Nuclear Division and Taskforce Leader of the Mentorship Program, delivered the welcome speech. He congratulated the mentors and mentees on the fruitful use of the networking opportunity and encouraged the mentees to maintain these valuable connections in the future.

Following that, Prof Pan Chin, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CityU, expressed gratitude to the HKIE Nuclear Division for providing this valuable opportunity to the participants. He also acknowledged the mentors for their open sharing of career and technical advice.

To wrap up the session, Ir Richard Fung, Expert Panel Member of The HKIE Nuclear Division, gave a short technical talk on international and regional trends in nuclear industry. He wished the student mentees a bright future ahead, and gave encouragement for them to pursue their goals in the nuclear industry.

After the informative sessions, mentors and mentees enjoyed a delightful closing dinner to celebrate the conclusion of the mentorship program. This provided a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone to reflect on their experiences and further strengthen the bonds formed during the program.

The closing session and dinner marked the end of the Nuclear Division Mentorship Programme 2023. It was a memorable occasion where mentors and mentees were able to connect, share experiences, and gain valuable insights into the nuclear industry. The program's success would not have been possible without the support of the HKIE Nuclear Division, CityU Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the enthusiastic participation of all mentors and mentees.
