Programme Highlights

As a clean, low-carbon and efficient base-load energy source, nuclear power plays an important role for China to secure the energy supply, optimize the energy mix, and achieve the goals of peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality. In this seminar, the current status and future predictions of nuclear energy applications in China will be reviewed. Besides, the status on Gen-III reactors, including AP1000, EPR, and Hualong one, will be briefed. Moreover, the conditions and key design features for various Gen-IV and Small Modular Reactors will also be discussed.


Biographies of the Speaker

Dr. Jiyun Zhao is a professor in Department of mechanical engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD degree from MIT and master degree from Tsinghua University in nuclear science and engineering. He was a senior nuclear engineer working at AREVA North America Headquarters for more than five years. He has more than 20 years research experiences in nuclear thermal hydraulics, safety and design and published more than 120 papers in the leading journals. He received best paper awards from leading conferences such as ICAPP and ICONE, and leading journals such as Applied Energy, Progress in Nuclear Energy etc. He provided keynote speeches and served as technical committee members for various leading conferences. Besides, he has been actively providing editorial services for key journals such as Nuclear Engineering and Design and Annals of Nuclear Energy.
