Technical Seminar on Merchant of Doubt – The story behind climate denial

Date, time & venue

28 April 2017 (Friday); 6:30 – 8:00 pm; immediately after the 30th AGM of NE Division, Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room (Seminar Room), the HKIE Headquarters, 9/F Island Beverley, No 1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

Speaker

Mr. LEUNG Wing-mo, Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory (Retired).

Programme Highlights

For 3 years in a row, the record of the world’s average temperature has been shattered. Just a few months into 2017, there are already more than its fair share of climate-related extreme weather events. While scientific evidences for man-made climate change and its adverse consequences are mounting, the opposition to the mainstream science is also gathering momentum, most notably from people like US President Donald Trump and the new Administrator of US EPA Scott Pruitt. What are their rationale, if any, for their stance against science? It appears that this can be traced back to the cold war.
