I am honoured to be re-elected as Chair of the HKIE Nuclear Division for 2025–2026. Together, we will cultivate a vibrant division dedicated to fostering innovation and sustainable progress in nuclear engineering.

Over the past decade, China has added over 50 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity, achieving a total of 55 operating reactors with a net capacity of 53.2 GW by April 2024, with 25 more reactors under construction. The United States leads with 94 reactors, totalling nearly 97 GW, while France and Russia maintain significant fleets. This expansion underscores the vital role of nuclear power in meeting rising energy demands and combating carbon emissions, establishing it as a cornerstone of a sustainable energy future.

During the 2024–2025 session, we proudly launched our LinkedIn page, which has grown to over 100 followers and nearly 10,000 impressions. I invite you to follow us at HKIE Nuclear Division on LinkedIn to promote awareness and connect with fellow professionals committed to innovation.

Our CPD activities have tripled, far exceeding our goal of doubling engagement. This achievement reflects the dedication of our committee and volunteers. We look forward to exciting events, including technical tours to the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) fusion facility, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base, and radiological visits to local hospitals—all designed to empower our members with knowledge.

We are expanding our outreach efforts, inviting new members to join our Nuclear discipline. To our young members aspiring to qualify, I encourage you to remain focused and persevere. Your dedication will not only fulfil your professional aspirations but also help shape a cleaner, safer future.

We will continue fostering collaboration with the medical physics community and organising visits to advanced nuclear facilities in China to inspire innovation. These initiatives will enhance our expertise and reinforce the importance of nuclear energy in medical applications.

Let us embrace the challenges ahead. Together, we can lead the charge in empowering innovation for a sustainable nuclear future. I look forward to working with you to make the HKIE Nuclear Division a beacon of excellence.
